The Punchline Comedy Club in Sandy Springs is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a series of big-name acts this month, including Jim Norton, John Oliver and Andrew Dice Clay.
Meanwhile, the much larger Atlantic Civic Center is hosting popular standup comic and actor Mike Epps Saturday, Feb. 11.
In other words, it's a good month to see some well-known comedians. Here are thumbnail sketches of each one:
Mike Epps:
Comedic styling: While he can keep it clean on TV, his stand-up act can get raunchy. "I'm from the 'hood, but my mentality is not 'hood," he recently told the Indianapolis Star.
Best known for: Comedic roles in "Next Friday" and "All About the Benjamins."
Concert info: 7 and 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11. $67.95 to $144.95 after fees. Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center, 395 Piedmont Ave. NE, Atlanta. 404-249-6400, www.ticketmaster.com.
Jim Norton:
Comedic styling: Gritty yet precisely paced critiques of the world.
Best known for: Two best-selling humor books, regular visits to "The Opie & Anthony Show" on Sirius/XM satellite radio.
Concert info: 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16; 8 and 10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17; 6, 8 and 10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18. $25. Punchline Comedy Club, 280 Hilderbrand Dr., Sandy Springs. 404-252-5233, www.punchline.com.
John Oliver:
Comedic styling: Topical, snarky, observational, with a British twist.
Best known for: Writer and "correspondent" for "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart" on Comedy Central.
Concert info: 8 and 10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24; 6 and 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25; $30. Punchline Comedy Club.
Andrew Dice Clay:
Comedic styling: Outrageous, crude, headstrong, dirty, obnoxious.
Best known for: Being over the top in a completely un-PC way that helped him sell out arenas in the early 1990s but also led to his decline. He satirized his tough, egotistical image playing himself during the final season of HBO's "Entourage."
Concert info: 7 and 9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27. $35. Punchline Comedy Club.
