AMC's deal to buy Georgia-based Carmike Cinemas would not only make AMC the world's biggest movie theater company, it could give it an even bigger share of metro Atlanta's screens.

AMC has 12 big theaters in metro Atlanta already and Carmike has six, including multiplexes in Cumming, Snellville and Conyers, according to the companies’ web sites.

A big rival, Regal Entertainment Group, has 14 theaters locally.

It’s not yet clear how specific Carmike and AMC locations will be affected if the deal goes through. The combination is subject to federal antitrust review.

Nationally, many of Carmike’s theaters are in different markets than AMC’s screens.
