SunTrust's Rogers adds COO title

William H. Rogers Jr., the president of SunTrust Banks, has taken on the additional role of chief operating officer.

Rogers, whose promotion was announced Tuesday, will continue to report to SunTrust Chairman and CEO James M. Wells III, the company said. Rogers, 52, started his career with SunTrust predecessor, Trust Company of Georgia, in 1980. He has been SunTrust’s president since 2008.

Rogers will assume responsibility for the Atlanta-based bank’s technology arm, which will continue to be led by SunTrust Chief Information Officer Tim Sullivan. Rogers will continue to be head of numerous SunTrust divisions, including consumer banking, mortgage and wealth and investment management.
