Southern Co. said the Unit 2 reactor at its Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant in Dothan, Ala., is back on line after an outage from Oct. 15 to Nov. 19 for refueling and maintenance.

Reactors at the plant must be refueled every 18 months. The plant’s Unit 1 reactor continued to provide electricity while Unit 2 was down.

The maintenance work involved more than 900 plant workers and an additional 800 from other companies performing other tasks. Southern said it also uses the down time to perform upgrades to its nuclear plants.
