A subsidiary of Neaton Auto Products Manufacturing Inc. will invest $8 million to expand a plant in Floyd County and create 50 jobs.

Neaton Rome Inc., which currently employs 450, is a provider of airbags, steering wheels and interior/exterior plastic trim to automakers. As part of the expansion, the company is adding four injection molding presses at the Rome plant used to mold plastics.

According to the Governor’s Office, which announced Neaton Rome’s planned expansion, there are more than 250 automotive manufacturing plants in the state, employing nearly 18,000 people.

In June, Hitachi Automotive Systems Americas, which produces electric power steering systems and variable displacement pumps, said it had completed work on a third production plant in Walton County. The company said the plant would add up to 250 jobs to an existing work force of about 350.
