SunTrust Banks has appointed a new chief executive for its GenSpring Family Offices wealth management subsidiary.

Thomas Carroll, the head of Atlanta-based bank’s sports and entertainment division, was announced Thursday as the successor Maria Elena “Mel” Lagomasino, who is leaving GenSpring after seven years.

GenSpring provides independent investment advice for ultra-high-net worth families. Carroll is a 16-year veteran of SunTrust, and most recently managed the company’s extensive private wealth management group for pro athletes, entertainers and entertainment industry executives and institutions.
