At opening of Kubota plant, firm suggests another deal could be in works

The grand opening of the Kubota Corp.’s $73 million manufacturing facility in Jefferson on Monday may not be the last of the Japanese conglomerate’s investments in Georgia.

Kubota Industrial Equipment President Henry Kubota said the firm was considering an expansion to the 88-acre site.

“I hope by working together all the fields and farms in North America will soon be filled by Kubota brands,” said Kubota. “This is an opening for us for additional expansion in the state of Georgia.”

The sprawling plant, which employees 200 people, builds compact tractor models used mainly by organic farmers and other smaller-scale agricultural outfits.

Gov. Nathan Deal noted that the site’s sprawling footprint is designed for an expansion if the company chooses to pump in more resources.

“We do know that Kubota is thinking about the possibility of further expansion,” Deal said. “And we will continue to talk to them about that.”
