Korean firm Wells Lighting to expand in East Georgia
A South Korea-based lighting firm plans to establish its North American headquarters in East Georgia and create 200 jobs over the next two years, according to a state news release.
Gov. Nathan Deal’s office said on Monday that Wells Lighting will establish its new facilities in Millen, 180 miles southeast of downtown Atlanta. Wells plans to move into an existing building and establish a corporate office, a research and development center and manufacturing operations, the news release said.
“The state of Georgia has long valued our relationship with Korea, a partnership that has paid dividends for both Koreans and for Georgians,” Deal said in the release.
Wells makes a number of street and industrial lighting products, and the company plans to make new light-emitting diode products in Georgia. Wells plans to invest about $30 million as part of the expansion.
The state said South Korea ranked as a top-three nation for foreign investment in Georgia in the 2014 fiscal year.
