The job fair drew thousands of people looking for work.

Michael Hunter of Lithonia gets resume advice from Georgia Department of Labor employee Jean Prophete (right). Hunter was looking for a management position in the warehouse or production field. Since losing his job in January, Hunter has been "looking every day since then and not a bite."

Joyce Ellis of Atlanta uses a computer to fix and print her resume. Out of work for the past six months, Ellis was hoping that opportunities "may present themselves today." Ellis is looking for a job in the private sector, but also was using the career expo to enhance her job-seeking skills.

Job seekers enter the event area for the job fair Wednesday in downtown Atlanta.

While waiting for the start of the job fair, Ramiro Zamora of Lawrenceville talks with a recruiter about a potential job. Zamora, a structural designer, has been looking for work since February, when his company laid off 60 percent of its employees. Zamora came to the event "looking for anything."

People looking for work head into the Georgia World Congress Center for the start of the job fair. Besides employers who have job openings, the event will include representatives of two- and four-year colleges and technical schools.

Structural designers Terry Rigdon of Lawrenceville (left) and Jimmy Williams came to the job fair looking for work after their former employer downsized in February.
