Lincoln Financial Group, a Pennsylvania-based provider of insurance, retirement and other financial services, said the company will expand its Atlanta insurance operation, adding hundreds of jobs over the next three to five years.

Details of the expansion were slim, but Lincoln said in a news release late Monday it will expand its group protection business, which involves disability, group benefits, accident and serious injury insurance products.

The exact number of planned new jobs was not immediately known. Lincoln Financial spokesman Anthony Campese described the planned hiring as “substantial” and involving hundreds of positions. Lincoln Financial will take about 100,000 square feet of office space in the RiverEdge Summit office park in Sandy Springs near Northside Drive and I-285. The new office will open in 2016, he said.

Lincoln Financial has about 200 employees in the metro Atlanta area who will shift to the new offices. The company said more than 2,000 people are in the group protection division, and the Atlanta expansion will serve its existing Omaha, Neb., hub.

The new hires will include sales, IT, claims and underwriting personnel. The company said it plans to post open positions at the career section on its website, www.lincolnfinancial.com.
