Georgia Southern University, a Carnegie doctoral/research institution founded in 1906, has a record enrollment of more than 20,000 students from 49 states and 101 nations around the world. Through eight colleges, the University offers 117 bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree programs.
The University’s sprawling 700-plus acre campus is a welcoming environment recognized for our student-centered approach, with engaging faculty that provide our students with hands-on opportunities in research, scholarship and service.
In 2012, Georgia Southern was ranked one of the top 10 most popular universities in the nation by U.S. News and World Report. Georgia Southern tied with Yale for the number seven spot and is the only institution in the southern United States to earn a spot on the list.
All of these factors have given the University the feel of a much smaller private college, and record numbers of students and parents are taking notice.
Georgia Southern’s growing role in the state has presented even more opportunities for students making the decision to focus on a specific discipline through graduate study. Students are involved in creative research, collaboration and new partnerships with industry that address regional and state challenges while also achieving the advanced skills and knowledge they are seeking.
Georgia Southern's Jack N. Averitt College of Graduate Studies (COGS) informs, challenges and inspires more than 2,700 students in seven academic colleges with these real-world experiences, which in turn impact the lives of others in the region and around the world. Georgia Southern's innovative approach to learning and leadership, combined with our progressive programs, are two hallmarks of COGS.
Students can explore more than 40 master’s, specialist and doctorate degree programs in the fields of business, education, liberal arts, science, technology and health care, both in the classroom and online. The University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and specific programs within the different colleges have also earned professional accreditation.
