An explosion in the boiler room of a Coca-Cola bottling plant in India killed three workers and injured five more. The bottler, Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Ltd., said the incident occurred at the Khurda plant in eastern India at 2 p.m. local time Friday.

Three workers from boiler services firm Steamax Fuel Supplier died from their injuries, and four employees of the same firm and one employee of Hindustan Coca-Cola suffered burns.

"As of right now, we do not know the cause of the incident," the bottler said in a statement.

Several officials of the Coca-Cola bottler were questioned by police, according to news reports. Hindustan Coca-Cola said the boiler "was in good working condition" and was last inspected and approved in December. The plant has been closed since Friday as the cause of the explosion is investigated.

"Our main priority at this time is to provide assistance and relief efforts for the families of those killed and injured," the company said. "We express our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and pray for speedy recovery of the injured."
