Dan Blanton, president and CEO of Georgia Bank & Trust in Augusta, has been named by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. to serve on an advisory committee on community bankers.

The 14-member committee will advise the FDIC on policy issues that impact community banks.

“The financial crisis has had a significant impact on community banks,” FDIC Chairman Sheila Bair said in a news release.

“These banks are essential to the fabric of our country’s financial system through their support of business lending and service to the needs of local economies.”

The committee’s first meeting is scheduled for Oct. 15 in Washington. Members will serve two-year terms and meet at least twice a year.
