Comcast is expanding its Southeast hub in Gwinnett County and adding 150 jobs there as well as an equal number in Fulton County.

The cable TV provider and Gov. Nathan Deal announced Tuesday that Comcast is shifting its Norcross regional office and more than 500 current employees to nearby Peachtree Corners. Comcast will add another 150 new positions there as it moves into an existing four-story building that will feature a high-tech demonstration lab and space for employee training.

The lease on the current regional office is set to expire later this year.

The decision to stay in Gwinnett is a boost for the county, which has suffered two recent blows from Fortune 500 companies. NCR announced it will move its headquarters from Duluth to Midtown Atlanta, and Rock-Tenn said a merger will lead top executives to relocate from Norcross to Richmond, Va., though it plans to keep a major local presence.

“We had numerous options that we were reviewing” for possible relocations, Comcast spokesman Alex Horwitz wrote in an email to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “In the end, we chose to stay in Gwinnett. They’ve been a great partner to us, and it is a very centrally located position that meets our requirements.”

He declined to comment on what incentives the company might receive from the state and local governments.

Beyond the Gwinnett jobs, Comcast said it plans to add 150 positions handling call center duties at an existing technical support service center in the Alpharetta area.

“Today’s news explains what true economic development is all about,” Deal said.

Comcast already employs about 4,000 people throughout Georgia.
