International Forest Products Ltd, a Canadian company that employs about 800 people at its lumber plants in Georgia, said it will open a corporate office in Peachtree City that will serve as a hub for operations in the Southeast.

Vancouver-based Interfor, as the company is known, has lumber plants in Baxley, Swainsboro, Eatonton, Thomaston, Perry and Preston. A sawmill and remanufacturing plant in Perry and a sawmill in Preston were added when Interfor acquired Tolleson Lumber Co. of Perry.

Interfor said it completed its nearly $130 million cash, debt and stock deal to acquire Tolleson from Ilim Timber Continental on Monday.

The Peachtree City office, at 700 Westpark Drive, is expected to open in early May. The office will be staffed with management, sales, accounting, administration and information technology.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
