A Nashville-based technology firm will put a software development center in Buckhead, creating an initial 100 high-paying jobs that could expand to up to 250 over the next few years.
Asurion Insurance Services, which offers insurance for mobile phones and electronics and other technology protection products, confirmed Thursday it will expand its software development team with an office in Piedmont Center.
The center is expected to open by mid-year.
Average annual salaries are expected to be around $90,000.
The board of Invest Atlanta, formerly known as the Atlanta Development Authority, is slated to vote on incentives at its scheduled meeting Friday. The resolution to approve a grant of up to $500,000 from the city’s Economic Opportunity Fund would also require City Council approval.
Asurion is also expected to qualify for an undetermined amount of state economic incentives.
“As the business capital of the Southeast, Atlanta and Georgia are uniquely positioned to provide companies such as Asurion with the competitive assets and business resources to help support future growth,” Gov. Nathan Deal said in a statement. “In addition to our progressive business environment, Asurion will also benefit from the pipeline of talent for high-tech jobs in metro Atlanta.”
An Asurion spokeswoman cited the state’s openness to business and proximity to the company’s Nashville headquarters.
On Thursday, Atlanta’s development authority was rebranded Invest Atlanta with new focus on job creation by drawing companies to relocate or move operations to Atlanta, as well as cultivate entrepreneurs. Mayor Kasim Reed announced the change during his State of the City address at the Georgia World Congress Center.
Metro Atlanta is a national technology hub, particularly in wireless communication and financial and payments technology.
“Asurion’s investment in our city is also another indication that Atlanta’s business-friendly climate is helping create new jobs in for the 21st century,” Invest Atlanta President and CEO Brian McGowan said in a statement.
