Tough month for Tichina Arnold: Not only did Starz cancel her show "Survivor's Remorse" three weeks ago but she now has lost VH1's 'Daytime Divas," a look behind the scenes of a "View"-like chat show.
Both shows were shot in Atlanta and featured Arnold. The dramedy, which also starred Vanessa Williams and was based on Star Jones' novel, was co-executive produced by Josh Berman, who created Lifetime's "Daytime Divas." That was one of the first scripted shows shot in metro Atlanta in Peachtree City after the state upgraded its tax incentives in 2008 and lasted six seasons.
The two-hour season finale of "Daytime Divas" aired July 31. VH1 was silent about the show's future for three months, a clear sign its future was bleak.
VH1 is backing off from scripted fare. Both "The Breaks" and "Hit the Floor" are going to sister station BET, which has embraced scripted shows with far more aggression. VH1, in the meantime, is sticking with reality shows like its "Love and Hip Hop" and "Black Ink" franchises.
Other cable networks that have tried and given up on scripted programming in the past couple of years include WGN and A&E. In the meantime, streaming services such as Amazon, Netflix and YouTube Red continue to grow.
