For the first time, I attended the Kiss 104.1 Flashback Festival this past Saturday at Aaron's Lakewood Amphitheatre. It's been the station's signature event for more than 15 years and there were at least 15,000 people there.

It was a chance to talk to radio execs and DJs in a more relaxed setting and enjoy some classic R&B. My wife Helen's first single she ever purchased in Midnight Star's 1983 album "No Parking on The Dance Floor." So she got a shot to re-live her childhood.

Despite some sound problems near the end, Midnight Star moved well and sounded great. When the mikes stopped working during "Freak-a-Zoid," the crowd had no problem filling in the lyrics.

The headliner was the Whispers, who have had numerous hits in the 1970s and 1980s. They also have twin lead singers who I couldn't differentiate:

And Doug E. Fresh was the 1980s rapper representative, after the Zapp Band and Club Nouveau:
