The latest TV series to use Atlanta as its home is AMC's "Walking Dead," developed by Frank Darabont ("Shawshank Redemption").
It begins shooting next month. AMC is being fairly conservative, ordering just six episodes for airing in the fall. The network has two hits in its original lineup now: “Breaking Bad” and “Mad Men.”
"Walking Dead" is based on the comic book series created by Robert Kirkman. Survivors of a zombie apocalypse, led by police officer, Rick Grimes, travel the country in search of a safe home.
The cast includes "The Shield" actress Laurie Holden, who plays Andrea, one of two sisters who join the survivors of the zombie plague, and Steven Yeun as Glenn, an expert scavenger. Others include relative unknown Andrew Lincoln (as Rick Grimes), "Prison Break" star Sarah Wayne Callies (Lori Grimes), "The Class" and "Eastwick" star Jon Bernthal (Rick's police partner, Shane), and Jeffrey DeMunn (undisclosed role).
Currently, metro Atlanta is home to several other scripted shows, including "Drop Dead Diva" (Lifetime), "The Vampire Diaries" (the CW), "Tyler Perry's House of Payne" (TBS) and "Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns" (TBS). TBS also recently shot a pilot called "Franklin and Bash" starring Breckin Meyer and Mark-Paul Gosselaar.
