Cobb County officials say they are prepared for the worst, if the forecast for 3-6 inches of heavy, wet snow comes true.
Cobb, like most counties in metro Atlanta, is under a winter storm warning until 10 a.m. Thursday.
County Department of Transportation trucks, along with a salt and gravel mixture to treat roads, are staged across the county. DOT crews are working 12-hour shifts.
In addition, Cobb County Transit Express Bus schedules have been cancelled.
County spokesman Robert Quigley said the county isn't pre-treating roads because the forecast calls for rain before the snow, and the mixture would wash away. He said trucks will start laying down the sand and salt after the first flakes fly, or when road temperatures drop below freezing.
The state installed road sensors on state routes after last January's winter storm, and the county can monitor those temperatures at its traffic management center.
Quigley said the county's policy is to first treat major thoroughfares, particularly those around hospitals, police and fire stations.
