Gwinnett to decide on movie studio, parks

Gwinnett County commissioners have a busy Tuesday. In a day full of meetings, they're slated to decide the fate of a movie studio complex, take a first look at their proposed budget for 2015 and consider construction at several local parks.

The movie studio, known as the Atlanta Media Campus, would bring housing, shopping, offices, a college and film production to an industrial area of Jimmy Carter Boulevard where OFS now makes fiber-optic cable. Planning commissioners approved the project earlier this month and recommended county leaders do the same.

That decision will be made during a 7 p.m. public hearing at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center. Earlier in the day, commissioners will see the proposed 2015 budget for the first time, though they will not vote on it.

Department heads presented their wish lists in September. They included a new fire station, expanded library hours and additional bus service, among other items. The budget that is being presented next week is still subject to change.

County leaders will also decide on several park projects, including a $10.8 million construction of Level Creek Park, reconstruction of the Pinckneyville Park playground and engineering for the extension of the Western Gwinnett Bikeway and a Norcross-to-Lilburn multi-use trail.

Those decisions will be made at a 2 p.m. session.
