More than 546 flights have been canceled at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on Wednesday, and an airport official warned travelers to check their flight status with their airline before heading to the airport because many flights have been canceled or delayed.

Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines, the dominant carrier at Hartsfield-Jackson, canceled about 520 flights Wednesday. That includes additional flight cancellations when ice pellets fell earlier than forecast.

The airport said about 70 planes had been de-iced Wednesday, with eight of its 11 de-icing pads in use. It also said all of the airport's runways, taxiways and roads are open, and runways are being pre-treated with de-icing fluid.
