Jimmy Carter Boulevard is shut down while Gwinnett police investigate a deadly pedestrian accident. JOHN SPINK / JSPINK@AJC.COM

A driver has been detained after hitting and killing a pedestrian on Jimmy Carter Boulevard early Thursday, Gwinnett County police said.

Jimmy Carter is shut down between Britt Road and Lawrenceville Highway.

Use Indian Trail Road as an alternate route to I-85, the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center reported.

The victim’s name, the cause of the crash and other details have not been released.
