I saw Walter Banks at Georgia Tech's game Saturday -- he's an usher there, too -- and asked if there had been any movement regarding his personal relocation to SunTrust Park. He said there had, but I could tell he was being coy (in the nicest possible way). Turns out he didn't want to upstage the Big Reveal, which came today.

From the official Braves release:

In a week when Americans express their gratitude, the Atlanta Braves are giving thanks for long-time usher, Walter Banks. The Braves have partnered with Uber to provide Banks with transportation to and from SunTrust Park so he can continue greeting Braves baseball fans. Banks, a fan favorite, will be dropped off and picked up at one of the designated Uber zones at SunTrust Park.

Banks started as an usher at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium in 1965, first for the Atlanta Crackers and the next year for the Braves when they moved from Milwaukee. Known for his numerical trivia and friendly disposition, Banks, the Braves longest-serving usher, has become a living legend for fans attending games.

“Walter’s unwavering presence and love for the Atlanta Braves has not gone unnoticed,” said Terry McGuirk, Braves Chairman and CEO. “I cannot imagine a Braves game without him. We’re so grateful that Uber was able to make sure Walter continues to be a meaningful part of Braves game days.”

While the Braves gave Banks a behind-the-scenes tour of SunTrust Park last week, Uber Atlanta general manager Luke Marklin greeted Banks with the news of the gift.

“Uber is proud to provide Walter with a reliable ride to and from each game at SunTrust Park,” said Marklin. “Walter is a cornerstone of the Braves community, and we all know a home game simply wouldn’t be complete without his passion and hospitality.”

Banks has been a Braves usher at both Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium and Turner Field. The partnership with Uber ensures that he will continue to be a part of Braves home baseball games at the new SunTrust Park.

Got nothing to add beyond what I've already written , except: This is just great -- great for Mr. B, great for the Braves, great for all humankind. Happy Thanksgiving.
