Georgia Tech is tied with Pittsburgh and Virginia atop the ACC Coastal Division, and that's a surprise. Those teams were picked to finish fifth, sixth and seventh in the division by the assembled conference media in July.
Georgia trails Missouri by a half-game in the SEC East, but the bigger consideration is that South Carolina, which beat the Bulldogs on Sept. 13 after being picked at SEC Media Days to win the division, already has two conference losses.
Both Tech and Georgia are in pretty good shape. The Jackets haven't lost and won a big game at Virginia Tech on Sept. 20. (Intriguing note: The four teams picked to finish behind Georgia Tech all rank behind the Jackets in this week's standings.) They play Miami on Saturday; then they play Duke here, then North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Win two of those three and the Jackets will have stamped themselves as Coastal favorites.
Georgia's way is even simpler. Beat Missouri in Columbia West on Oct. 11 and the East will be the Bulldogs' to lose. Which isn't to say they couldn't lose it. They led Clemson by three points after three quarters and Tennessee by three points after four quarters, and both games were in Athens. Georgia still would have to face Arkansas in Little Rock, Florida in Jacksonville, Kentucky in Lexington -- and Auburn in Athens.
So I'm asking: Whaddaya think? Two division titles for the Peachtree State? One title? No titles but much angst?
