Week 5 Basketball Rankings

In Class AAAAAAA boys, Shiloh makes its debut at No. 9 and replaces Lambert in the poll. Coffee took over No. 1 for Tri-Cities in Class AAAAAA and Sprayberry climbed to No. 4 after its 10-0 start. South Paulding and Mundy’s Mill replaced Lanier and Tucker in the Class AAAAAA top 10.

In Class AAAAA, Lithia Springs and Jones County replaced Columbia and Warner Robins. Class AAAA No. 1 Upson-Lee defeated Wilkinson County 76-60 on Tuesday for the program’s 73rd straight victory. Shaw and Thomson left the poll, and Salem and Woodward Academy debut at No. 9 and No. 10, respectively.

GAC is at the top of the Class AAA rankings again this week as the top-5 stays the same. Morgan County is chasing at No. 2 and Johnson-Savannah, Cedar Grove and Pace Academy fill out the top-5. Top-ranked GAC is riding momentum from victories over Lumpkin County (94-41) and North Atlanta (63-55) in its past two games.

Woodville-Tompkins leads Class AA and has wins over Toombs County (80-25) and Metter (75-33) in its past two games. Second-ranked Therrell is chasing again this week ahead of Thomasville, Northeast-Macon and Washington County in the top-5.

Treutlen leads Class A-Public again this week after a big win over Jenkins County (89-45) on Tuesday. Second-ranked Hancock Central lost to Baldwin on Dec. 8 (67-61) but since has reeled off three-straight wins including a 74-47 victory over Thomson this week. Wilcox County, Calhoun County and Green County fill out the top-5 this week.

Top-ranked St. Francis lost to Class AAA No. 2 Morgan County on Nov. 24 and since, the Knights have been formidable. St. Francis responded with victories over King’s Ridge, Fellowship Christian, Whitefield Academy and Mt. Bethel to remain on track. Second-ranked Mount Bethel stayed with St. Francis on Dec. 14 before losing 70-68 to stay No. 2 in the class.

In Class AAAAAAAA girls, North Cobb defeated McEachern 50-40 and sent the Indians out of the top 10. Lovejoy maintains its place at the top of Class AAAAAA after scoring a 45-40 win over No. 3 Stephenson.

In Class AAAAA, Buford was defeated by Norcross 63-56 and Villa Rica jumped the Wolves for No. 1. Madison County improved to 11-0 with a 64-62 win over Winder-Barrow and sits at No. 3 in Class AAAA. Defending state champion Spalding sits at No. 2 and undefeated Carver-Columbus remains No. 1.

Beach is at the top of Class AAA again this week with local-rival Johnson-Savannah chasing. Beach has been flawless (12-0) so far with wins over Savannah (63-30), Islands (54-28) and Jenkins (75-36) recently. No. 2 Johnson-Savannah is 5-5 by virtue of a rugged opening schedule. Since its loss to Statesboro on Dec. 8, it’s reeled off a 96-23 victory over Southeast Bulloch and a 95-25 victory over Groves.

Dodge County leads Class AA ahead of Laney, Douglass, Fitzgerald and Bryan County. The Lady Indians lost to Wayne County (54-33) on Dec. 14 before winning against Wilcox County (77-50) and Washington County (73-64).

Telfair County leads Class A-Public and is riding momentum from a 61-27 victory over Charlton County on Tuesday. Second-ranked Marion County defeated Loganville 55-39 on Tuesday to remain undefeated on the season. Wheeler County, Georgia Military and Calhoun County round out the top-5.

In Class A-Private, Wesleyan is flawless through 10 games including a 58-40 victory over Brookwood this week. No. 2 Holy Innocents’ defeated Woodward Academy 61-47 on Dec. 15 and will carry that momentum into Friday’s game against Norcross. Third-ranked St. Francis defeated East Hamilton, Tenn. on Tuesday in the Crescom Bank Holiday Invitational (58-53) to keep its spot in the polls.
