David Boyd returns to the bench for East Jackson on Tuesday when the Eagles play at Hart County. The veteran coach has been sidelined for two weeks following surgery to implant a heart defibrillator. Boyd said Monday he was feeling much better since the surgery.

East Jackson (7-7) struggled in three losses at the Beach Ball Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Guard Drue Drinnon, however, played well, scoring 28, 28 and 34 points with 22 combined assists.

Islands aims for another upset

The Islands Sharks will try to put another notch on their belt tonight when they travel to Jenkins to meet the defending state champions. The Sharks (11-4) earned some credibility points when they topped Savannah for the first time in school history. Islands is led by juniors Justin Cave, who averages 21.2 points, and Hugh Durham, who averages 11.1. Freshman Trae Broadnax averages 12.3 points.

No. 3 Jenkins is coming off an impressive three-win performance at the Grayson Classic. The Warriors soundly defeated three larger schools, beating Buford by 18, Centennial by 32 and Kennesaw Mountain by nine. Trevion Lamar (17.4 points, 9.3 rebounds), Zion Williams (16.4 points, 5.3 assists) and Michael Coffee (12.5 points, 7.5 rebounds) lead the deep and disciplined Warriors.

South Atlanta-North Clayton tussle for first

No. 5 South Atlanta (10-2) and North Clayton (7-5) meet tonight to determine first place in Region 4-AAA Division A. Both teams are 3-0 in the subregion.

South Atlanta is led by all-state selection Devontae Dean. The Hornets have beaten Blessed Trinity, Cedar Grove and Douglass and won both their games at the War Eagle Classic at Woodward Academy.

North Clayton holds victories over Cedar Grove, Westminster, Mays and Columbia and lost in overtime to private school power Whitefield Academy. The Eagles are led by seniors Jamarcus Sanders and Kindle Vildor.
