The 2013-14 GHSA state riflery playoffs are underway, with a 48-team field being whittled down to 24 over the weekend. Semifinal matchups must be completed by Saturday, when 12 automatic qualifiers will book their spots in the April 12 state championship at Fort Benning. An additional two wild-card teams from the semifinal round will round out the 14-team championship field.

Parkview, which finished runner-up to 2012 state champ Lumpkin County in Area 6, opened with a win over Dalton and will next face Upson-Lee. Lumpkin County took care of McEachern and will go up against Tift County in a semifinal showdown. Woodward Academy, which won three consecutive state championships from 2002 to 2004, saw its season come to an end at the hands of Georgia Military.

Union Grove is attempting to defend its 2013 title and it has also triumphed three times in the last six years. The Wolverines, who are only the No. 4 seed out of a loaded Area 5, kicked off their defense by taking out Apalachee. They will square off with Ware County in the next round.
