Valdosta head football coach Rance Gillespie is leaving to become co-offensive coordinator at Georgia Southern, his employer for three seasons before taking the Valdosta job in 2010.

Gillespie will be joined on Georgia Southern’s staff by Valdosta State head coach David Dean, several media outlets reported late Tuesday. They will share offensive-coordinator duties. Georgia Southern has made no announcement.

Gillespie was Georgia Southern’s offensive coordinator from 2007 to 2009 under coach Chris Hatcher. He is being hired back by new coach Tyson Summers.

Gillespie’s record is a high school coach is 119-51 in 14 seasons. He is 49-20 in six seasons at Valdosta, including a 8-4 record in 2015. Gillespie, a native of Rabun County in northeast Georgia, led Peach County to state titles in 2005 and 2006.
