The top-ranked Jonesboro boys, the defending Class AAAA state champions, are dominating.

The Cardinals (16-1, 8-0 Region 4-AAAA) have beaten region foes by an average of 44.5 points per game.

Super sophomore M.J. Walker is one of four players averaging in double figures. A highly-touted college prospect, Walker is averaging 17.0 points a game, despite having his minutes limited in blowouts. Walker had 37 points in Jonesboro’s 73-52 win over perennial power Miller Grove in December.

DeAntre Mack is averaging 13.0 points per game, Tracy Hector 12.0 points and 6 rebounds and Austin Donaldson 10 points, 6 assists for the Cardinals.

Jonesboro travels to Pike County tonight, before returning home on Saturday to face second-place Mt. Zion.

Girls

-- The top-ranked St. Pius girls are at Grady tonight for a 5:30 p.m. tip. The Golden Lions, led by superstar Asia Durr, have won 69 consecutive regular season region games. Durr scored 29 points in St. Pius’ win over Chamblee on Tuesday.

Grady took St. Pius into overtime on Dec. 2, with the Lions prevailing 63-59.

--Mary Persons will look to build off Tuesday’s big win over Veterans, when the undefeated Bulldogs travel to Lamar County tonight. Senior forward Keke Calloway scored 33 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in Mary Persons’ 44-39 win over previously unbeaten Veterans.
