Buford gymnastics won its first two meets of 2014, including a top finish in the prestigious 15-team House of Troy Invitational at Lassiter on March 14. The Wolves have been out of action since their triumph and will travel to Lovett on Tuesday for a six-team meet. Buford and Lassiter will be headliners and the field will consist of Lovett, Chattahoochee, Wheeler and First Presbyterian Day. The Wolves placed fourth in state last season with 106.725 and the Trojans finished sixth with 105.725 total points.

Lassiter returned its all-around star Mary Katherine Ballow this year and Buford brought Logan Nugent, who placed fourth in state last season in the all-around category. Nugent only participated in the beam and floor in Buford’s last competition, but qualified for state in each category with an outstanding 9.75 on Floor and beam with a 9.075. Carrollton, which placed second in the House of Troy Invitational, looks to be a serious state title contender after last year’s third-place finish. The Trojans wrapped up a victory over Pace Academy in their March 19 meet and have three of the better gymnasts in the state leading the way. Kyndel Yett has scored a 9.325 on Vault
and 9.175 on floor this season, while teammate
Katie Beth Carter has qualified for state with a 9.05 on floor and 9.075 on beam.
Jennifer Brandenburg is also in the 9.0 club with a 9.1 on floor
and a 9.325 on beam. Carrollton visits Lovett on March 27 and will square off with the host Lions, Forsyth Central and Centennial.
