Duluth on Wednesday promoted defensive coordinator Bob Swank to replace Jason Conner as head football coach.

Swank came to Georgia in 2005 to coach at Pope in Marietta. His teams were only 8-22, but Swank did well to persuade one of the team's best basketball players, T.J. Yates, to resume his football career. Yates played one season in Swank's spread offense, got all-state recognition and wound up in the NFL after starring at the University of North Carolina.

Swank left coaching until taking a job at Duluth in 2013 under Conner, who resigned for family reasons after two seasons and a 5-15 record at a school that has not had a winning season since 1995.

Swank coached for 13 seasons in college and was a had coach for two seasons at Buffalo State from 2001 to 2003.

Swank is the seventh Gwinnett County assistant to get a head-coaching job this off-season.
