Region 1-AAAAAA is 17-0 against non-region opponents in 2014. Only 10 regions since 1956 have finished with a winning percentage of .850 or better in non-region regular-season games. That is with a minimum of five teams in a region and two non-region games per team. The only region that went unbeaten in non-region games under those criteria was 4-AAAA in 1980. Also that season, 6-AAAA went 15-2-1. Both of those region champions - Evans of Region 4 and Griffin of Region 6 - lost to eventual champion Lowndes in the state playoffs. The worst performance by a region in non-region regular-season games was suffered by 2-AAAA in 1985. The region made up of eight Columbus schools went 1-23.
