As expected with No. 10 Douglass’ loss to No. 2 Hapeville Charter, there is a new team debuting in the top 10. The Jefferson County Warriors are ranked for the first time since Week 2 of last season.
The Warriors (4-2, 2-0 Region 4) are riding a four-game winning streak — all against league opponents — after opening the season 0-2 in non-region play. They beat previously undefeated Hephzibah 44-28 last week to enter the polls. Given their weak region, the Warriors will likely run the tables on their remaining games so long as they stay healthy and play to their capabilities.
The rest of the top 10 stayed relatively unchanged from last week, with the only difference being Swainsboro and Fitzgerald swapping places. It appears pollsters penalized the Tigers for only winning 14-7 on the road against unranked-but-solid Metter, while Fitzgerald shut out Worth County 34-0.
