Baseball: Tattnall Square wins Class A private title, beats Hebron

Cory Bartholomew hit two home runs and Logan Simmons pitched a two-hit shutout as Tattnall Square Academy defeated Hebron Christian 5-0 on Monday in the deciding Game 3 of the Class A private-school baseball championship series.
It was the first state championship for Tattnall Square since joining the Georgia High School Association in 2014. Tattnall had won eight state titles in baseball and 32 overall in the Georgia Independent School Association.
Bartholomew was 2-for-3, hitting two solo homers, both to center field. His performance was redemption for fielding errors he made in Game 2, when Hebron Christian came from a 3-1 deficit to win 5-3 on four unearned runs. Bartholomew, USC Upstate signee, went 3-for-3 in that game and was 5-for-7 in the championship series.
Leadoff hitter Nick DiPonzio, who opened the game with a home run, was 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Simmons struck out four and walked only one. Steven Casey and Spence Johns got Hebron’s two hits.
Tattnall finished 27-8. Hebron was 30-8.
