1. After watching Justin Thomas play at the Senior Bowl, former Cleveland Browns general manager Phil Savage believes that Thomas deserves a shot at the NFL .

3. Defensive coordinator Ted Roof made changes to the way he and his staff taught the defense this spring . The changes were motivated, he said, by the way the defense finished last season.

The statistical differences are stark. The Jackets gave up 6.7 yards per play in the first six games against power-conference teams and 5.1 in the final four.

Power-conference opponents completed 65.5 percent of their passes for 8.4 yards per attempt through the North Carolina game. The numbers dropped to 59.4 percent and 5.1 yards per attempt in the final four games.
