As Georgia Tech men's basketball coach Josh Pastner rolls through scouting reports on each scholarship player on this team, one thing continues to pop up: points.

The team has to be smart in its shot selection because there isn't a go-to scorer.

The second thing is effort in everything from rebounding, to avoiding turnovers, to taking good shots.

The margin of error for earning wins will be very small.

Over the next few days, I’ll post player-by-player scouting reports on the team as it prepares for its exhibition opener against Shorter on Nov. 5 at McCamish Pavilion.

The Yellow Jackets went 21-15 overall, 8-10 in the ACC under previous coach Brian Gregory.

Josh Heath

Class: Senior.

Position: Guard.

Height: 6-2

High school: Tampa Preparatory School/South Florida.

Career averages

Points: 3.4.

Shooting percentage: 40.0

3-point percentage: 26.7

Rebounds: 1.2

Miscellaneous: Totals of 178 assists to 70 turnovers in two seasons. … Has 39 steals. … Hit five 3-pointers last season. … A 72.3-percent free-throw shooter. … Started 21 games last season, his first at Tech. … Thirteen games without a turnover last season.

Coach Josh Pastner's take: Big thing for Josh Heath is he had a 3-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio for us last year. He's got to continue with that this year. He's got to do a good job for us defensively. He's got to be more vocal and he's got to shoot at a higher clip from 3. He can't be in the 20 percent range from 3—point range. He's got to shoot at a higher clip.
