Drivers along Jonesboro Road just can’t catch a break.

After weekend work on the South Metro express lanes project , drivers can expect more delays Tuesday when CSX resurfaces a portion of Jonesboro Road.

The work, which will cover a section where the railroad crosses the state route, will last from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and require the closure of the intersection of Mt. Zion Boulevard and Southlake Parkway.

"The closure will affect the afternoon commute," Georgia Department of Transportation spokeswoman Annalysce Baker said Friday in an emailed statement.

But there’s good news: Traffic will be allowed to travel on Jonesboro Road to access local businesses and detours will be in place for truck traffic.

Southbound truck traffic can make a right on Mt. Zion Road, a left on Tara Boulevard and a final left onto Battlecreek Road to avoid the closure.

Traffic traveling northbound can make a right on Battlecreek Road, a left on Southlake Parkway and a final left on Mt. Zion Road.

Detour message boards will be in place to help drivers help navigate traffic.
