The Georgia Department of Transportation is prepping state highways for possible winter weather later today.

Spokeswoman Natalie Dale said GDOT is applying brine to highways in all counties north of Macon. She said the agency will continue to apply brine throughout the day and will have plows and salt trucks on stand-by tonight.

Mountain counties in North Georgia could get 1 to 3 inches of snow and metro Atlanta could get anywhere from a dusting to 1 inch, according to Channel 2 Action News. Snow could move into the metro area as early as Tuesday afternoon.
