First, it got a new name. Now, a new fleet of buses will help complete the image makeover for the transit service in Cobb County.
CobbLinc, the transit system formerly known as Cobb County Transit, will receive a prototype of its new buses Monday, one of 35 new buses that have been purchased.
Seventy old buses will stay in the rotation for now, but the new ones will replace some aged vehicles in Cobb's existing fleet. All of the buses are scheduled to arrive by late spring or early summer, bringing the new fleet total to 105. Within the next two years, all the older buses will be replaced, county officials told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in September.
Two of the new vehicles will be fueled with Compressed Natural Gas, which emit up to 90 percent fewer emissions than gasoline.
The new buses will have on-board Wi-Fi and can provide real-time passenger information that will lead to the development of a mobile app. The app will be introduced later this year, according to the county.
Last September, the transit system announced its name change as part of a rebranding approved by the Cobb County Board of Commissioners.
CobbLinc Director Vida Covington said the rebranding and buses will "give the system a fresh, modern image and improved rider experience for its customers."
