The General Muir now open in Sandy Springs

Popular Emory Point deli the General Muir opened its long-awaited second location over the weekend.

Located at 6405 Blue Stone Road at the City Springs development in Sandy Springs, the restaurant is seating by reservation only.

“It feels kind of crazy to be opening a restaurant at this time, but it also feels great to birth something after so much loss this past year,” read a newsletter the restaurant sent to customers. “Thank you for your patience and kind words of support during this much-delayed process (1 year, to be exact!). "

Like its Emory Point location, the Sandy Springs location will require customers to wear masks when not seated at their tables. The restaurant also offers takeout, with online ordering for contactless pickup or ordering by phone.

The expansion is the latest venture for Todd Ginsberg, Jennifer and Ben Johnson and Shelley Sweet, who are also partners in The General Muir, Fred’s Meat & Bread, Yalla and TGM Bread, as well the newly-opened Wood’s Chapel BBQ in Summerhill. The foursome, who call their group of eateries Rye Restuarant, also owned the Canteen near Georgia Tech, which closed in 2020.

Sweet and the Johnsons are also partners in West Midtown restaurant West Egg Café.

The General Muir, which opened at Emory Point in 2013, is named for the refugee transport ship that brought Jennifer Johnson’s mother and grandparents, Holocaust survivors, to New York in 1949.

The restaurant is “celebrated for its mix of deli staples enhanced by Ginsberg’s fine-dining background and inventive entrees,” according to AJC food and dining editor Ligaya Figueras. Regular menu items include burgers, deli and bagel sandwiches and platters and dinner features including brisket and Sunday night spaghetti.

The General Muir will join several other food and beverage establishments at City Springs including Cafe Vendome, Flower Child, Nam Kitchen and the Select.
