With long lines plaguing travelers in Atlanta and other airports around the country, many travelers have been looking for a solution.
Some are turning to the Transportation Security Administration's PreCheck "trusted traveler" program for expedited screening.
But passengers should also be aware that PreCheck is not a panacea. It does not guarantee expedited screening for every flight, since TSA "incorporates unpredictable security measures."
What's more, only flights on participating airlines will get PreCheck members the "TSA PreCheck" indicator on their boarding pass to grant them access to the expedited screening line.
Many major airlines participate in PreCheck, including Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines, as well as Southwest Airlines, the second-largest carrier in Atlanta.
But some carriers that fly out of Atlanta do not participate in TSA PreCheck. Ultra low-cost carriers Spirit and Frontier do not participate in PreCheck, for example. Most of the foreign carriers that fly out of Atlanta are also not part of PreCheck.
