Delta contributing 1 percent of profit to charity

Marine Corps Col Matt Puglisi, Commanding Officer, Combat Logistics Regiment 45, accepted the bikes, that were donated and assembled by Delta technicians, who work in 21 different shops, each specializing in an area like avionics, wheels and brakes, engines and airframes. Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines is donating 1 percent of its profits to charity, the company announced Friday.

According to Delta's incoming CEO Ed Bastian, the company plans to contribute 1 percent of its net income from the previous year to charitable organizations, including contributions of cash, in-kind travel and grants from the Delta Air Lines Foundation .

“That means in 2016, we’re going to give $37 million to charitable organizations worldwide, more than twice what we gave in the prior year," Bastian said in a video statement.

Delta had net income of $4.5 billion in 2015, more than six times its net income of $659 million in 2014.
