When you think back on great NFL quarterbacks who comes to mind? Now, when you think of great college football coaches who comes to mind?

Everyone will produce different answers, but chances are that Brett Favre and Steve Spurrier will come up in the conversation somewhere. Well, both icons were on the same field on Saturday when Favre paid a visit to the Gamecocks’ practice.

The three-time MVP and 20-year NFL veteran made a surprise appearance in Columbia and gave some words of advice to South Carolina as the team prepares to open up its season against North Carolina on Thursday.

The visit comes just days after the Gamecocks named sophomore Connor Mitch as their starting quarterback. So if Mitch comes out against the Tarheels with a gunslinger mentality you know where it probably came from.

The relationship between Favre and Spurrier is unknown, but it’s a shame the two never worked together back in the day. That would have been something to watch.
