Jimmy Womack earned his spot in Georgia football history by clearing the path for Herschel Walker in 1980.

Womack, a blocking fullback, helped the freshman running back Walker set school records that still stand and the Bulldogs went undefeated and won the national championship after beating Notre Dame in the 1981 Sugar Bowl.

Womack died Tuesday due to complications from surgery. Womack went in for hip surgery, and complications led to organ failure, Warner Robins football head coach Bryan Way told the Macon Telegraph.
