Jamie Foxx, who has been a singer, a film star, a game show host and a stand-up comic, is returning to his roots as a sitcom star but this time will be on a Netflix show debuting Wednesday called “Dad Stop Embarrassing Me!” From the premise alone, it sounds like a throwback to the 1990s, much like Netflix’s “Country Comfort” starring Katharine McPhee.
Kate Winslet is the latest A-list star entering the TV world, this time in a limited drama series called “Mare of Easttown” where she plays a gruff cop in small-town Pennsylvania investigating violence against teen girls. It debuts Sunday on HBO.
John Stamos, already famous for doing family comedies, is jumping into the Disney+ world with dramedy “Big Shot” where he plays temperamental basketball coach who is fired from his job and ends up coaching a girls basketball team at an elite girl’s private high school. Check that out on Friday.
And Mark Wahlberg re-enters the reality world with a docuseries debuting Thursday on HBO Max called “Wahl Street.” Swimming legend Michael Phelps gets the documentary treatment on Peacock Wednesday. And “Younger,” a show that debuted years ago on TV Land, has moved its final season over to streaming land at Paramount+ Thursday.
Over on broadcast TV, the Academy of Country Music’s award show airs on CBS Sunday.
