This streak of wet weather isn’t nearly over yet, but it shouldn’t be as omnipresent over the weekend.

Eastern Atlanta counties are seeing scattered tropical downpours Saturday afternoon. Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said those showers should clear up as the system moves toward Gainesville.

Most of Atlanta will see partly cloudy skies this evening with some showers possible, Monahan said.

This is good news for Braves fans, since it's unlikely Thursday night's postponed game due to lightning and rain will repeat for Saturday night's game against the Marlins at 7:10 p.m.

“Into your Sunday afternoon, another round of scattered showers and downpours developing as we continue in this pattern of muggy weather, tropical downpours across North Georgia,” Monahan said.

Both Saturday and Sunday have a 40 percent chance of rain, but Monday and Tuesday have a higher 60 percent chance of rain. There’s a chance of rain every day for the rest of the month, according to Channel 2.

After a week of showers and isolated storms, the comparatively dry weekend lends itself to road construction, and the Georgia Department of Transportation has plenty of projects planned.

The biggest project is the resurfacing of segments of I-75 and I-285, which started at 9 p.m. on Friday and will go through Monday at 5 a.m. The only breaks will be after the Braves game to help alleviate traffic.

In Fulton County, roadwork on I-85 South from Central Avenue to Loop Road has two left lanes blocked, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

Looking ahead, GDOT will also close the Mount Vernon Highway and Barfield Road intersection for utility relocations, according to a news release. It’ll be closed nightly from Sunday to Wednesday from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m.

Those planning on going to events around the metro area should check and make sure dates haven't moved as a result of the rain. Many events, including the SOS Music Festival, an old-school hip-hop fest with the Sugarhill Gang and Kool Moe Dee, have been delayed to try to keep patrons dry.
