Even with unexpected storms Friday, metro Atlanta is in a severe drought, according to the National Weather Service.

Summer officially begins 6:34 p.m. Monday.

Showers in the forecast on the first full day of summer Tuesday aren't expected to change drought conditions, according to Channel 2 Action News.

The day will begin with partly cloudy skies and lots of sunshine. Then clouds will thicken by the afternoon.

“By the evening, a weak front to our north could trigger an isolated shower,” meteorologist Brian Monahan said. “That will be mainly out in the north Georgia mountains.”

Temperatures were 84 degrees in Atlanta, 82 degrees in Blairsville and 85 degrees in Griffin just after 5:40 p.m.

Tuesday’s high is forecast to be 90 degrees.

Highs will remain in the 90s through Friday.
