The heat is here to stay, metro Atlanta.

Temperatures are expected to remain in the 90s through the weekend.

“It’s going to be hot enough to make you uncomfortable outside just wanting to go from your building to your car into your house,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said Thursday.

Here are some tips to beat the heat:

— If you’re taking pets out for a walk, “do it in the cooler part of the day because that pavement actually can burn the pads off of their feet,” Minton said.

— Between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., sunlight is most intense. Keep pets and kids in the shade. You might also want to dress children in hats, UVA-blocking sunglasses and clothing that is light in color and weight. Use sunscreen with at least an SPF of 30 on babies 6 months old and older.

— Take the kids inside if they feel dizzy, lightheaded or nauseated.

— Always check the backseat to make sure not to leave children in the car. Even at an outside temperature of 60 degrees, the temperature inside a car can reach 110 degrees.

— Place a cellphone or purse in the backseat as a reminder to check the backseat.
