Sunday should have more of the above-average temperatures that got the Labor Day weekend off to a warm start.
By noon, the temp should be 85 on its way to a high of 90, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Katie Walls
“We are in a typical summertime pattern despite the calendar saying September,” Walls said.
Sunday should have a few isolated afternoon storms. The chance of rain is at 20 percent, so Walls said the light threat of storms shouldn’t affect North Georgia much.
“I’m not worried about showers developing until this afternoon,” she said Sunday morning, “and even then it will be very hit and miss.”
Given all the Labor Day weekend activities planned across North Georgia, the 724,000 people that Atlanta police expect to be in town should appreciate the low chance of rain.
They just need to remember to bring their sunblock, Walls said. The temperature should also reach 89 on Labor Day.
College football continues Sunday with North Carolina Central taking on Prairie View A&M in Georgia State Stadium at noon. The Braves also play the Pittsburgh Pirates at 5:05 p.m. in SunTrust Park. Traffic could pick up near both stadiums around game time.
Weekend-long events such as the AJC Decatur Book Festival and Dragon Con continue Sunday, which should clutter nearby roads as well.
In Piedmont Park, the Atlanta Black Pride Weekend will also feature a festival Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
